Has anyone been able to setup Asterisk 1.4.11 and FreeBSD 6.2, without any zaptel hardware. I’m just trying to connect to an IAX host, but I keep getting a CONGESTION error. I assume is because of the hardware timer, but I’m not sure.

I have the same issue with one trunk between peer and user.
Previously I ran Asterisk 1.4.3. I did not have the problem. This week I
uodated to 1.4.11 and the problem occurred. In my case I have a IAX
friend on the main PBX. A satellite server connects with the main server
with a trunk with the IAX user defined in the main server.
Calling from the satellite to the main server is ok. The way back gives
me CONGESTION. The problem is that in the setup (use: iax set debug) the
USERNAME is not given. For authentication another IAX trunk is used.
Authentication then fails.
I'm still seaching for the solutions.
Kind regards,
Pim van Stam

How do you "run ztdummy", I've tried to load the .ko file and I'm not sure I
know how cause it's still not working.
As a side note, to troubleshoot...I've got another box that's running
FreeBSD 6.2 and Asterisk 1.4.3, and this other box has Digium's hardware
card (with two lines), my two lines work, but I can't get the IAX connection
to work still (even on this one with zaptel installed and working).
Any ideas...
John

kldload /usr/local/lib/zaptel/ztdummy.ko
I believe you will need the other zaptel stuff kldloaded as well. When you install zaptel, and it loads via the zaptel_enable="YES" method in your /etc/rc.conf it will load everything but ztdummy. At least my setup did. I had to load ztdummy by hand until I edited the startup file to take care of this.

ok tp properly setup zaptel. you have to install it from ports.
cd /usr/local/etc/rc.d and edit the zaptel file and where you see it load
the .ko files on the end of the first Line put ztdummy.ko after the
last .ko file and as the first module on the next line. this needs to be
fixed inthe next zaptel release.

AFAIK, you need only zaptel.ko and ztdummy.ko for timing only.. Correct
me if wrong. Also it'd be great if we had an option to pick ztdummy only
option for misc/zaptel port, as portupgrading it replaces the modified
rc.d script so you have to redo the changes.

Well, I'm not sure what I did but it's working now. I tried essentially I
did everything that was mentioned here, the first couple times I still had
problems. I've been working on it soo long, I don't remember the things I
changed. Thanks for your help.

Hello...
You need the zaptel.ko and ztdummy.ko (loaded in this order)....
the problem is in your iax configuration
if one of the machines is behind a nat,
you must use the register= ..... in the machine that is behind the nat....
type set verbose 7 in the two asterisks console, and
try to dial from one to another,
it will for sure display the problem as an error message...

you have to have zaptel installed for timing on iax

Hm... I don't have Zaptel, and I'm using IAX just fine on FreeBSD 6.2
Am I lucky?
zaptel timing is only needed if you're using IAX trunking. if you're not
using IAX trunking, then you can get away without having to use zaptel-bsd
to begin with.
