I'm running FreeBSD-6.2-RELEASE-amd64. I want to install zaptel from the ports on it but I'm curious as to whether or not it will install. Previous attempts to install * with the zaptel port fail as the Makefile identifies that this is not an i386 machine and will not install zaptel.
Any suggestions or advice on how to get zaptel installed on the amd64 version of FreeBSD out there?

Are your ports updated?
Some time ago, amd64 was enabled, look:
negro /usr/ports/misc/zaptel]$ more Makefile |grep amd64
ONLY_FOR_ARCHS= i386 amd64
good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I'm not really a programmer and I definitely saw this block of code in the Makefile for zaptel, but I also still see this block of code in the Makefile for asterisk
Does this mean that zaptel will install if you use the ports on amd64. I must ask this because I've been through installing * many times and it's a bitch to get it to reinstall if something was left out...like zaptel.

It means that Zaptel can be enabled on i386 or amd64. Its not by
default.
You need to enable it..
its just make deinstall; make config; rm -r work; make install
good luck!!

Frank, I am unsure why you decided to hijack my thread for your own
purposes. Do you believe the issues I raised are unimportant compared
to yours?
There are some helpful people on this list who have assisted the
cause of Asterisk on BSD in a big way, but between this and our daily
dose of "hi I'm awake now, why aren't people replying to me.".....
[sigh].
