problema al instalar asterikast

pues sigo los pasos del archivo install que viene dentro del paquete asterikast y siempre me da el mismo error, ya sea en ubuntu o en centos y es en este pedaso casi al final:

start the listener
   asterisk.pl
if all went well you should see something like this:
   asterisk -rx "manager show connected"
      Username IP Address
      asterikast 127.0.0.1
this means the listener is listening

le doy asterisk y no se me acompleta con ".pl" solo hay un asterikast.pl, y si le doy asterisk.pl me dice esto:

bash: asterisk.pl: orden no encontrada

que puedo hacer? estoy desesperado,
