Idefisk 2.0 supports SIP and IAX protocols. This means that you will be able to use SIP as well as IAX protocols. We will create a SIP and an IAX account on our Asterisk test server.
To add an IAX account follow this procedure:
Open terminal to your Asterisk server
Edit your iax.conf. You can achieve this by using vim:
root@erihon:~# vim /etc/asterisk/iax.conf
On the bottom of the file add the account information:
When you are ready save the file and reload Asterisk IAX configuration by using the command:
root@erihon:~# asterisk -rx “sip reload”
Installing Idefisk 2
Once you download Idefisk 2 installation files from our web site you can start the installation. To do this just start the installation file named `Idefisk_Free_2.0_RC1_Installer.exe`. A Welcome form will appear on your screen. To continue with the installation just click on the Next button. If you want to exit the setup just click on the Cancel button.
The next form is the License Agreement form. Read the End User License Agreement (a.k.a. EULA). You should carefully read the License Agreement and if you Agree with it click on the I Agree button to proceed. If you disagree with one or more clauses of the Agreement you shouldn’t install the application. In this case click on the Cancel button.
With the next form you will be able to choose the destination folder where the Idefisk will be installed. The default folder is `C:/Program Files/AsteriskGuru/Idefisk/Free`. However you might want to install it in different location. You can type in the new path or choose it by Browse For Folder dialog. On the bottom of the form you will be able to check for the required (by Idefisk) and the available space on the current drive. When you are ready click on the Next button. If you want to review the EULA you can press the Back button.
With the next form you will be able to choose the destination folder where the Idefisk shortcuts will be placed in the Star Menu. The default folder is ` AsteriskGuruIdefisk Biz`. However you might want to install it in different location. You can type in the new path. You will be able to disable Idefisk shortcuts by checking the Do not create shortcuts checkbox. When you are ready click on the Next button to continue.
From the next form you will be able to specify if the setup should create additional shortcuts. The installation can put shortcuts on the Desktop and on the Quick Launch bar. By default the setup will create those shortcuts, but you can disable this by unchecking their respective checkboxes. To start the installation process click on the Install button. If you want to review any of the previous options click on the Back button.
The next form will show you details for the installation process.
You can view the details by clicking on the Show Details button.
There is one final form that will inform you that the installation is complete. Click on the Finish button to close the Setup Wizard.
With this the installation of the Idefisk 2.0 is complete.

Lee (lee at kimberconsulting dot com) 23 January 2008 12:59:00 To fix the problem of running zoiper on FC7 where it claims no libexpat.so.1 is installed.
Check that expat-devel is installed:
# rpm -q expat-devel
expat-devel-1.95.8-9
If not, install expat-devel (yum install expat-devel)
If it is installed, make a softlink to the /usr/lib/libexpat.so.0 file
I.E.
cd /usr/lib/
ln -s libexpat.so.0 libexpat.so.1
Then run ./'zoiper and you should be good to go.

Terry (terryk at norcom dot com dot au) 06 April 2007 00:53:41 I really like idefisk, but would love it to work with USB phone. To me this makes it so much more accessible to average phone user, for most calls. Can open app for advanced features, like address book ect. I have a very generic USB phone that works by default with eyebeam, firefly. I would love it to work with idefisk, and would seriously consider buying branded biz version if this were a feature.

renm (nowhere at gmail dot com) 26 January 2006 11:42:02 Nice IAX softphone, love it!
But with Asterisk 1.2.1, the Voicemail button not working (grayed out all the time even there are messages in voicemail box).
Some suggestion:
1. When incoming call, pls flashing the Line button with bright/dim red
2. Pls wipe out the number when call ended
3. When press Transfer button,
a. If there is no active call
• pop up the Address book
• add an input field on top of Address book
• change the Address book title to Forward to:
• type in the destination number <Enter> or double click any registered entry
• close the Address book
• flashing the Transfer button
• This will set up an Unconditional Forward
• press it again to unset it
b. If on the active call with caller
• put caller on hold
• pop up the Address book, add an input field on top of Address book, change the Address book title to Transfer to:
• type in the destination number <Enter> or double click any registered entry
• close the Address book
• flashing the Transfer button
• ring the destination
• press the Tsansfer button before callee pick up the call, caller will back to line – Blind Transfer
• speak with callee before press Transfer, if callee doesn’t want to answer the call, hangup with callee, caller will back to line; otherwise press blinking Transfer button will send caller to callee – Supervised Transfer
4. Add changeable skin

mariofalonso (mfa at abysal dot com) 05 January 2006 12:49:39 Hi. The best IAX2 softphone I tried!
One thing, What about using PC speaker like rinning device.
benjk (nospam at nospam dot com) 31 December 2005 15:51:24 Zoa, since you're using iaxclient as a base, I presume you can dial IAX2 URIs without the need for an account on a server. It would be useful if you updated your manual accordingly.
It would make life easier for those of us who want to send non-voip folks to your download page so they can call us.
Brij (brij at pontusglobal dot com) 28 December 2005 23:35:04 I downloaded the phone and set the settings as described above. Its says that the user is registered, but when I try to make any calls it just says Line 1: call ended(unknown), what do I do?
Louis-P. Huard (lphuard at hotmale dot com) 28 December 2005 04:35:16 This is the best IAX2 softphone by far. Tried several of them.
Do you think of doing a driver for the CyberphoneK usb phone. This usb phone is pretty popular and quite good. I use it with the SJphone’s driver and the SJphone. And it’s the only reason I am still using the SJphone.
The other thing I am looking for is a conference mode – like on the SJphone softphone. What I see as a possibility is having the ability to keep other conversation alive with having them put on hold when I switch lines so they could be in a conference.
R. Daemen (RDaemen at compano dot com) 19 December 2005 16:46:29 Addition to last post:
After some more searching on some docs about the phone (unfortunately without any succes), I've found another name for it: "SoftPhone Integral S3". Seems fairly secretive, since the only place where I actually could find the phone was with Swyx (Where we got them in the first place)...
Anyways, there is no information whatsoever that I could find about the phone.
R. Daemen (RDaemen at compano dot com) 19 December 2005 12:24:52 I have an S3 USB Handset (Also labelled as SwyxIt! P250 USB Handset). This handset has 2 speakers: One in the phone body and one in the handheld. Idefisk works fine with this phone, with just 1 problem: I can't get it to put the audio from a conversation over the handheld part of it. It keeps using the speaker on the body (it does not detect being picked up). The mic works fine though.
Is there any possibility to get the 'pick up' swithc in the body to work in Idefisk? (At this point, not being able to do this, we need to replace every phone here if we intend to switch fully to Asterisk)

upset-user (upset-user at anonymous dot com) 30 November 2005 23:52:12 Don't try novaphon.com. Once they charge your credit card the service is over, no sales and customer support. You will lose your money.
Amit Johar (joharhs at gmail dot com) 29 November 2005 14:52:01 Great work!!!
Works great with Asterisk.
Just a small problem, probably a config problem. When i try to dial an internal extension, the call is established but i don't get any ringing tone.
IdeFisk Softphone(Ext 2000) ---> Idefisk Softphone(Ext 2001), using Asterisk No dialtone
Help Please
faisol (faisol2019 at yahoo dot com) 28 November 2005 17:36:59 hi,
i am a new user.I recenlty made asterisk server.now i want to use this software. Can i use this using microphone only?
Sat P. (srpanpaliya at yahoo dot com) 26 November 2005 01:05:11 This is really a great job done! Is it possible for you to create quickly interface with excel spread sheet for dialing. Also, I would like to dial the numbers in the contact list one by one, is it possible for you to create some icons for auto-dialing. Example: NCH express dial software. The software is linked with express talk and it can rapidly dial the numbers from the dial list. Importing and exporting facility to the list will greatly enhance this software for dialers like me.

cabob (support at asteriskguru dot com) 22 November 2005 13:03:43 But the phone is not working on Windows 98.
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 21 November 2005 12:58:50 The novaphone people have an asterisk server, so you will not need your own. Just connect to theirs.
Mohammed shamir (SHAMIR at omantel dot net dot om) 20 November 2005 20:57:35 Dear sir,
I come to this page from Novaphon.com while searching voip for my need . I have no knowledge about it before. I do not understand " To use the phone you need to have an installed Asterisk PBX server." can I use this softphone to my window 98se computer for Novaphon account? Do it interfere with my net2phone dialer I am using regularly at present ? Regards, md.shamirul islam ,oman
Marcus Deluigi (user at domain dot com) 15 November 2005 07:24:43 Great tool. But unfortunately, it seems not possible to have multiple instances running on the same computer, even if I start them with different accounts (right click -> run as ...)
Would be great if this was possible in order to do some server testings ..
(btw: turn off this stupid email validation in your comment submit form. In spamming times like this, no one wants to publish his email in a machine readable format).
Ewald Simonis (ewald at truetechnology dot nl) 09 November 2005 22:05:21 Love your client, would definitly deploy it. As far as configuration I have some thoughts, most of our deployment (1000 and more) client are working with active directory. so i would like to see some policy integration. I can offer some time to realize this for the community.
John (no at mail dot now) 07 November 2005 13:37:10 I have Asterisk@Home 2 beta 4 and find this softphone won't register, although it will make outgoing calls.
Anders Bååth (anders at nofear dot nu) 07 November 2005 10:52:18 Great Software!!!
I just installed the v1.24 and it works great!!
Found however that not all of the 0-9 keyboard keys are transmitting DTMF, dont know if this is a bug... on my install only the keyboards 3 and 8 keys are sending DTMF! but the idefisk numpad works great though!
idnihus (idnihus at gmail dot com) 28 October 2005 12:58:08 Any chance to get iLBC included in this phone?
Cabob (support at asteriskguru dot com) 28 October 2005 11:10:49 Hi Errol,
This is know issue and in the new version will be fixed, but if you try not to use the DTMF buttons and just type the number there should be no problem.
Errol Samuels (esamuels at yahoo dot com) 28 October 2005 00:24:04 I like your phone but the problem is that it will only dial the number if I put the number in the address book first. I am able to key the number in but it will not dial. Is this a known issue?
peter (webmaster at lapstore dot de) 27 October 2005 16:08:50 Again 1.24:
Always on top does not work on windows 2000 at startup (window creation)? With XP it seems to be ok. On 2000 you can once open the general options and click ok, after that always on top works until you quit the app.
Errol Samuels (esamuels at yahoo dot com) 24 October 2005 09:52:22 Zoa,
I am interested in a customize version of Idefisk but I have sent emails but no reply!
Manoj Shetty (Manoj dot Shetty at ae dot ey dot com) 17 October 2005 10:54:31 Hi ,
I am using Asterisk V1.2 beta1. I am able to register the IDEFISK v1.24 on the lower version of Asterisk, but with Asterisk V1.2 beta1 I cant seem to get it registered. Is it not compatible with Asterisk V1.2 beta1??
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 16 October 2005 00:28:53 When the call comes in, the line on the right will change colors, click on this line will pick up the call. Just hoovering above the line will show the callerid of the person calling you.
(this is to be able to choose what line you want to pick up if multiple are ringing at the same time.)
Cheers,
Zoa
Chris (cnr at themadprofessor dot net) 15 October 2005 23:53:03 Hi, Maybe I am stupid!! However When I have incoming calls I cannot seem to answer them. The dial button seems to be disabled, and the only button enabled seems to be the "hang up button".
Is there soemthing very vital that I have missed. Asterisk@home in a DMZ with Idefisk running on Windows XP SP2 in a "green" network. Outbound calls are fine, the dial button and the hang up button perform as expected.
Thanks Chris
peter (webmaster at lapstore dot de) 13 October 2005 19:58:54 Hi!
Size does matter :) Very nice phone
Version 1.24:
Hold Button does nothing except popping in and out.
Would be great to have another transfer button to send DTMF "#xxx" (for queue-agents).
Armando Borges (ab at dmkt dot net) 02 October 2005 19:07:11 Dear All,
I would like to but your IAX2 GSM/g711/g729a softphone!
I am working in a project, I would like to customise and make the oficial softphone of my company. Is it possible?
Thanks in advance,

Max (max at ksolutions dot ru) 01 October 2005 15:01:50 When G729 will be available?
We would like to buy your softphone with g729 if price is reasonable.
Pls contact max(at)ksolutions.ru
Raceman (idefisk at raceman dot nl) 25 September 2005 23:49:14 Hi, very nice iax softphone, thank you! I've a request for a next version. When I clicked the transfer button, I also like a quickjump to the address book, so i can quickly transfer calls to predefinded numbers.
I also like a possibilty that the address book can come from another source, like an url, so we can use the same address book in all the idefisk clients. Hope you will program this in future.
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 19 September 2005 16:17:08 Hmm, very strange, you are the very first person to report this problem. (several thousand use the phone already)
Do you have any other pc to try it on ? I suspect it has to be something with the audio drivers.
Johannes Bester (jpb at zonemail dot co dot za) 19 September 2005 15:25:52 idefisk121.zip, Same It just crach, reboot pc and XP reports it recovered from a serious error and want to infor MS, Eventvieweer show no App events!
Johannes Bester (jpb at zonemail dot co dot za) 19 September 2005 14:52:53 Downloaded idefisk124.zip, extract and ran the exe. PC crashed!
Rebooted - Again XP crashed!
TechFrance (techfrance at wanadoo dot fr) 19 September 2005 09:06:29 Hi,
Please, does exist a French Langage version of IDEFISK ?
It is so cool, that i think it is necessary to make it
for international ...
Thanks
Best regards
Kote (jrio at pobox dot com) 19 September 2005 06:09:45 Really kool soft phone, wondering if it's possible to log into an Asterisk server what is publishing IAX2 in other port than default (4569) ... is that possible ?
Best Wishes to the developers !!
Kote
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 15 September 2005 19:20:34 Try putting the microphone slider a little lower. (and disable the ACG in the current version).
The new version will have some additional echo cancellation and will be released tomorrow if all goes fine.
David Wilson (dave at dcdata dot co dot za) 15 September 2005 09:30:43 An increadible softphone ! I love the layout etc.
Only thing is that I'm battling with echo big time.
When I call out using Idefisk, the remote person hears their own voice echoed back. This happens when I call a remote SIP user or someone on a PSTN via a Digium TDM card.
Any ideas ?
Other than that I love the software. Well done !
alex (nni at gmx dot net) 20 August 2005 22:45:19 Hi,
Speex is not working with my asterisk. Idefisk is refusing to negotiate the codec. What can be wrong?

Hans (johann dot steinwendtner at utanet dot at) 12 August 2005 18:04:41 Hello !
Version 1.21.
There is no save button ! I click right mouse button at the idefisk
icon in the tray. A pop up menu appears. But there is no SAVE button
in this menu.
Best regards
Hans

Contact sales@asteriskguru.com to see if it would be possible to have a custom made commercial version of idefisk. Be sure to include a complete description of what is needed.
sherman (sherman at iqff dot org) 09 August 2005 13:39:57 I really like this soft. However i got some suggestions, actualy 1 :)
You could add something to integrate idefix with CRM software.
For example some application buton ?? something what opens web page with
variables like caller ID etc..
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 19 July 2005 08:16:31 Thanks for your suggestions!
1 and 2 are already on the todo list, 3 will be a hard one but we will have a look at how we could do it.
Mark Anderson (mcanderson at i-55 dot com) 19 July 2005 06:29:15 I have enjoyed using the phone and have the following suggestions:
1. Allow #1, #2, #3, etc... to optionally be dialed before the number to indicate which network to place the call over.
2. Add a command line command parameter capability which is the number you want to call (idefisk.exe callto:613). Also support a browser level "callto:" command.
3. Add conference calling support.
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 13 July 2005 11:40:37 With iax2, DTMF is sent out of band, so there are no real tones used.
(the actual tone is only sent to the headset)
Mark (markcs at home dot se) 13 July 2005 08:12:59 Could it be the length of the DTMF tone being sent? Maybe the tone is too short and therefore not recognised. Could idefisk be made so that the tone is continually sent while the keypad buttons are pressed?
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 12 July 2005 16:07:50 Looks like there are some issues with DTMF on CVS-HEAD. (not related to idefisk).
We will try to look into this.
Mark (markcs at home dot se) 10 July 2005 09:16:22 Hi! I can't get the DTMF to work.. the computer on the other end doesn't seem to hear the digits I type in via the keypad. I have version v1.21. Any ideas would be appreciated!?
cabob (support at asteriskguru dot com) 23 June 2005 16:13:04 Hi Patrick,
there is a DTMF panel as shown above with which you can send DTMF tones. This panel pops up with the small button with an arrow next to the dial button.
Also when you are in a call you can send DTMF tones with the keypad (NUMLOCK ON) .
Patrick Okui (pjo at trueafrican dot com) 23 June 2005 13:46:25 This works well enough, but I can't figure out how to send DTMF from the phone to the server once the call is made (so I can say collect the digits typed in using Asterisk::AGI)
Anything I need special I need to do?
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 19 June 2005 02:35:09 Looks like something is wrong with the link on the site, i will fix that on monday.
The correct link should be:
http://www.asteriskguru.com/tools/idefisk/iaxclient.zip
These are just the sources for the iaxclient library, the phone itself is not open source.
Erasmo (ez at yahoo dot com) 18 June 2005 16:56:29 Nice job folks!!!
Were I can download the source code? The link appears to be broken
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 14 June 2005 19:10:37 We checked and were able to succesfully save the second account.
I think you didnt hit the save button. (right clickon the tray icon, hit save)
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 14 June 2005 18:49:26 Its normal not to work well when the internet is congested, the QoS on your router has to take care of that.
(every phone has that problem).
About not saving the second account, we will look into this and fix it if needed. Did you double click on the tray icon and hit save ?
Steve Coakley (stevec5000 at gmail dot com) 14 June 2005 18:11:06 Yes, had to setup an IAX account with Voipjet. Now it works but not very well when internet is congested, cuts off half of every word. Hard to understand audio so not really useful for an actual call. Also, won't save second account even after making it the Default.
Paul (no at mail dot here) 10 June 2005 18:39:35 I really like this soft. However this is my first softphone I am using, but I works fine for me. I'm using iax2 operator in poland. All I needed to configure was setting my user account. Great Job folks!!
zoa (support at asteriskguru dot com) 06 June 2005 11:40:55 Stevem you are trying to use idefisk with a SIP account, but idefisk is an IAX2 telephone!!.
Steve Coakley (stevec5000 at gmail dot com) 06 June 2005 07:41:33 I've just downloaded and installed Idefisk and tried to configure it with no luck. There does not seem to be enough Account Options to enter all the necessary settings.
Besides my name, number and password I also have sip:768@141.79.10.90 and STUN: stun.softjoys.com:3478 but where do I put those settings? I tried each of these in the Server box but it would not Register with either one!
Tola Ogunsan (tolaniye at hotmail dot com) 28 May 2005 15:03:19 Very cool.. I prefer this to Firefly the footprint on the .exe is very small. Good Job
