Has anyone successfully gotten asterisk to work with voice modems? I
would be interested in plugging in my main phone line(s) into voice
modems and other "extensions" into other voice modems and when calls
come in have them get an automated attendant type of thing... then be
able to enter an extension and have the other phone(s) ring... and if
no one picks up go to voice mail...
It sounded like I could do this with asterisk... has anyone? If so I
would be interested in knowing what type of modem you are using and
what your config files look like..

This can already be done with other hardware. The part that's missing
with the voice modem is that the only one I've supported (the Rockwell
one) is half-duplex. The driver is about 90% done, but one cannot read
and write at the same timso it's going to be something of a walkie talkie
until then. Of course, as soon as ltmodem supports RING detection, that
won't be a problem since the ltmodem code is already full duplex. I
haven't really done much with the lt modem code though, but theoretically
it would be a nice channel :)

Right now the config files are admittedly a mess. With the introduction
of chan_iax, VoIP support is there. If I can get a console channel
working (using /dev/dsp) then I'll make the distribution install a
reasonable config for a demo. Look for that around 0.2.0 or 0.3.0...
If you look in configs/* You can see what the configuration files look
like now for voicemodems and such.
Now, if you're trying to plug in *phones* instead of phone lines, a modem
isn't goign to do you. You'll want something like the quicknet card
(http://www.quicknet.net) for that, or perhasp you might even use a sound
card.
