I am sure many on this forum are working on developing and many have already
developed there asterisk based standalone , one box solution for asterisk.
We are doing the same, and i do not want to re invent the wheel.
Therefore, i am interested in making a consortium, where all the people whoa re
building asterisk pbx standalone project could work together on it.
If any one wishes to work with us, Please feel free to email me.
What we want to build is a small pbx, something like a linksys router that u buy off
the shelf.

If you can buy it off the shelf, you can buy it off the net, if you can
buy it off the net and every member of the consortium is selling them on
the net, then it just became a commodity (sooner rather than later).
Digium's model is free code, sell telephony hardware. What's the
consortium's business model?

I see it as being possible but difficult for a group to come up w/ the
compromises needed to get it to the level to compete w/ other PBX
solutions and the easy of use of Televantage and other more
streamlined applications.
Don't get me wrong for an opensource project it's super but I don't
know if any compromising can be done to get it to the level of
Standalone quality.

One firm has to be bold and invent "the wheel" and then if their
platform is strong, it will be adopted and adapted. Its that simple.
Too many cooks spoils the soup.
I don=92t think posting to a list that you do not want to re-invent the
wheel and then simply asking for other people's work is going to be
effective.
How about either putting forth some effort to try yourself, and if you
already have, put forth the effort to share what you have tried? Simply
putting up a forum that isn=92t even configured is not helping the =
cause.
You are spending more time and energy on getting the answer from someone
else rather than just doing it yourself.
I also think that the call recording question would be better answered
on the "users" list since it has nothing to do with "biz"

Hi Rehan,
I don't think the hardware is an issue. Via Epia or other small form
factor embedded solutions are out there that are both powerful and cost
effective. What is missing imho is an interface that end-users and the
local PBX admin can work with and messaging integration into the
existing business infrastructure (think connections with CRM
applications like Act! & Goldmine, dialing a contact from Outlook etc.).
I would love to see these issues addressed.

We recently pitched to a potential customer where Goldmine integration
was a must-have. We weren't in a position to do the integration.
However we are considering a click-to-dial app. This looks like a
promising start:
