Folks,
When trying to compile asterisk I got the following error:
-I../include -D_REENTRANT -march=i586 -DOLD_SANGOMA_API -c -o cli.o cli.c
cli.c:27: readline/readline.h: No such file or directory
cc1: warnings being treated as errors
cli.c: In function `complete_fn':
cli.c:226: warning: implicit declaration of function `filename_completion_function'
cli.c:226: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast
make: *** [cli.o] Error 1
I am using RH2.6 with gcc -v
"Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/egcs-2.91.66/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release) "
Any suggestions?
Thanks, P.Z.
You need to have the readline-devel package installed.

Thanks Mark,
I got the compilation problem resolved, (although asterisk would not compile
with readline version 4.x installed, I had to downgrade to version 2.2).
Now, I am having the same problem as the other guy who posted a description of
it several days ago.... Basically, the "./asterisk -vvc" does not return the
prompt, and hangs trying to load the OSS channel. I suspect it has something to
do with the particular sound card I have (Compaq onboard audio device, ESS
ES1869 AudioDrive). Any thoughs/suggestions would be appreciated. Below is a
screen capture...
[chan_iax.so] => (Inter Asterisk eXchange)
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/iax.conf': Found
== Registered channel type 'IAX' (Inter Asterisk eXchange Drver)
== IAX Ready and Listening on 0.0.0.0 port 5036
[chan_oss.so] => (OSS Console Channel Driver)
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/oss.conf': Found
WARNING: File chan_oss.c, Line 239 (setformat): Requested 8000 Hz, got 7954 Hz -- sound may be choppy
Also, how would asterisk behave when encountering a half-duplex sound card?
Thanks, P.Z.

Right now it's kinda messy with half duplex cards. In theory it should
try to do duplex emulation like gnophone does.
Be sure that there is no other program using your sound card, including
esd.
