The attached short paragraph gives the zaptel.conf settings for E-1 as
provided by Digium.

ZAPTEL.CONF SETTINGS FOR E-1 CONNECTION
span=1,0,0,ccs,hdb3
bchan=1-15,17-31
dchan=16
The settings are similar to those for T-1. ccs signaling is
Common Channel Signaling and hdb3 is High Density Bipolar
Three coding.

In light of this suggestion, I propose to add the following remarks to the
document:
"Instead of esf framing and b8zs coding, d4 framing and ami coding are
sometimes used. D4 is the format used in AT&T D4 channel banks. ami is
'alternate mark inverson.'"

That reminds me... you may want to mention the typical
framing/linecoding settings for T1s as well (D4/AMI and ESF/B8ZS).
