Has anyone looked at the soud4tel card yet. Its a german card with 2 analog
phone jacks, for DM 159 which comes down to about $80.
They have a Linux driver under GPL which works with voxilla.
The web site is in german only:

This looks like something that I might be interested in. It's a ISA
card though. Do you read German?

I read, but I didn't found anything about compression. IMHO it's just an
soundblaster with telephony interface.

Yes, the G.723.1 is much smaller compression but due to its proprietary
nature, it's also rather limited in what you can do.
How so?

How so?
For example, we cannot use "WAV" files and translate them to G.723.1
because it's proprietary.
If Asterisk users want to use their sound card and communicate with
another user with a phonejack, we can only use GSM to communicate since
the user with the sound card cannot use G.723.1.
If we want to implement conferencing within asterisk, we must decode back
to SLINEAR to do the mixing. Conferencing *is* a goal of Asterisk, but it
will always be very computationally expensive for compressed protocols.

I checked it out and ordered it. Hopefully it'll be here before I move in
three weeks.
When I get it, I will work on a channel interface for it.
