Ok guys, let me first say I am NOT a programmer. :-)
I have asterisk compiled and running on red hat. I have a line jack card in
the system and it appears to be functioning fine.
When reading the channel.txt file in the asterisk doc directory it makes ref
to a chan_ixj file. I have looked all over the place and do not have a
chan_ixj file.
Asterisk is obviously seeing the card and even says “Caller ID Received”
when a call comes in. But I was under the impression that you have to have
a channel driver for all devices. How do I tell asterisk to answer calls
coming in on the linejack.

I'm working on adding LineJack support as I type this.

It's chan_phone now, not chan_ixj, but apparently you've figured that out
hehe.

Well first you'll need to wait until I get this driver straightened out...
Nevermind... I've got the driver working now, although it doesn't seem to
properly detect when the LineJack gets hung up -- this may be a linejack
issue though, I don't know, because I can't seem to get their software to
detect it either. It seems to detect an on-hook as soon as I take it off
hook.
Anyway, it's in CVS. I'll probably make a new Asterisk release with it.
This was your lucky day to ask the question.

Making progress but I must still be doing something wrong.
Though now it tries to play something it still does not answer.
A few things:
1) Always run asterisk with -vvvc so that you get the highest verbosity
level.
2) Although I'm not sure it's strictly required, you're better off running
"Answer" before you run "Playback"
3) Make sure you have a codec translation path between whatever format
your files are in and whatever format you've put your LineJack in.
Specifically I would recommend either wav files or gsm files for your
sound (maybe mp3 would be fine too), and be sure you've configured your
linejack for "slinear" mode (format=slinear) and be sure you've set your
mode to "fxo" since you're using a linejack.

Thanks Mark. Got it this morning.
Making progress but I must still be doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Ok Mark im gonna show my total ignorance here.

I do do this so 1 point for me.

I agree with this but since I didnt even specify playback, and honestly have no
idea where I would do that in the first place I guess this is -1 point for me
:)
