Hi,
I'm becoming very bewildered with this field, as I'm researching how to
implement a PBX in my office. I am a feather's blow away from ordering
TalkWorks Pro 3.0 from Symantec; it's $129 and does everything I would want it
to do. Unfortunately, it only runs on Windows.
So, does Asterisk do what TalkWorks Pro does, in terms of the technical
abilities; I'm not so concerned about the interfaces and graphics. I just want
that kind of functionality on Redhat, not Windows...

For the past couple of months, Asterisk has been fairly stagnant due to
the fact I've been moving my support business.
However, I've recently gotten back to doing development for Asterisk, and
starting to put together ideas for its future development.

Hi Mark,
I just learned from Digi that the BRI card is "not supported" under Linux.
And on the other hand, that Symantec doesn't support it either with their
TalkWorks. So, I'm screwed either way. The card works fine under Windows, but
there is no software I can find which recognizes the card: Asterisk sounds
powerful, but the card won't work under Linux.
: What specific features do you want?
:
Well, the TalkWorks program answers up to two lines, has support for 15 user
mailboxes, or 899 general mailboxes, will take voicemail with professional
promts, or use "follow me" forwarding of voicemail. It works with a variety of
standard analogue modems, and has a nice looking (I'm a designer) virtual phone
interface. It also has fax on demand options, fax-back, and some other
features.
All I need is the IVR stuff, though.
: Does the Digi board support the ISDN4Linux API?
:
I'm still waiting to hear about that from Digi. My guess is that they
wouldn't know, because they haven't tried, and will send me a canned response;
"the card does not support I4L."
