Hi. I'm new to this list, and I'm also relatively new to telephony.
I'm interested in two things...
1) I'm looking for a "simple" voice-mail system for a single analog phone
line connected to a voice-capable modem in a linux system (like for a
home-user system).
2) I'm looking for either a way to either replace the voice-mail computer
system at my business called "Active Voice Replay Plus" (a 486, DOS based
thing, that is not Y2K happy) which is attached to a Vodavi PBX, or I'm
looking to replace the entire combination of the Vodavi PBX *and* the
voice-mail computer. I've got 4 incoming voice lines and 1 fax line.
I don't know enough about telephony at the moment to know even where to
look or where to begin to solve my needs. Can somebody tell me if Asterisk
is what I'm looking for? If it is, then I will happily and readily read
all of the documentation available, and I'll try it out.
If it's not what I'm looking for, then I would really appreciate a pointer
in the right direction.

I too am interested in the first of these two queries. I've got an External
Hayes Accura 56K Speakerphone modem. This is quite happily used by pppd, but
Asterisk doesn't find it with or without the aopen driver, even though, as
far as I'm aware, it's based on the Rockwell chipset.
Thanks,
Matt
