I posted earlier about call screening system, and Mark's answer seem to
imply that the even though the LineJack has a FXS and FXO port both cannot
be used at the same time (as in playing a simulated ring-back audio file to
a caller on the FXO port while ringing the handset on the FXS port). Am Is
this correct? How about passing thru audio from one to the other. Is this
simply the way hardware works? Is it the way the Linux driver presents the
hardware or the way Asterisk sees and deals with the card (as one port at a
time).
It would be great to use a single LineJack to get both an FXS and a FXO
port.
Finally is www.linuxjack.com the cheapest place to pick up these cards are
can someone recommend a better alternative?

As far as I can tell, there's only one DSP on the board, so its either an
FXO or FXS mode board...it can't be both.

I've seen them crop up on ebay occasionally...and they go for a few bucks
under retail, but I got the few that I have through linuxjack.com. Quick
shipping, no problems.

The product info indicates that you it has a pass thru mode. This probably
is a simple connection ala standard modem. Can someone from Quicknet
confirm?
I should have known better than to questions Mark's advice. ;-)

It should be possible to answer a call on the PSTN interface , play a
ringback tone and simultaneously apply ring current on the POTS port.
My test so far indicate that the Linejack can detect POTS and PSTN hook
status simultaneously. Ringing current is controlled on a port on the SLIC
on the Linejack which is independent from the DSP.
I don't think it is possible to send/receive audio simultaneously on both
ports. Only at one of them. But while holding the other.
Connecting both ports together is probably a simple audio connection.
Alhough the current asterisk driver doesn't support it to handle the FXO and
the FXS port independently. ;-)

That is a correct assumption. You could be playing audio and ring the
POTS port (as long as it is not connected to the PSTN port). The POTS
port is either connected to the SLIC or the PSTN port, and this is
accomplished with a relay. The DSP can only be connected to either the
DAA (PSTN port) or the SLIC (POTS port) at any one time, so the only way
to get audio out both ports is to connect the DSP to the DAA and then
connect the POTS to the PSTN via the relay.
