I was able to get the grammars dsitributed with the engine to load and
run properly. However, I still can't simply do an activate of
"builtin:grammar/date," for example. This isn't a showstopper for me
since I can simply load the ABNF* grammar files, but if anyone has any
insight into how to solve this I'd appreciate it.

Grammars are used via a two step process: loading and activating. This
applies to the builtin grammars as well, it's just instead of knowing
the full path to them you can use builtin:<name> and they will be found
in the Lumenvox installation. So first either specify it in
lumenvox.conf or load it in your dialplan.

Joshua,
Thanks, that worked. I thought that the builtin grammars were merely activated.
